About this workshop

According to the The American Institute of Stress, approximately 33 percent of people report feeling extreme stress, 77 percent of people experience stress that affects their physical health, 73 percent of people have stress that impacts their mental health and 48 percent of people have trouble sleeping because of stress”. These statistics highlight the importance of knowing how to recognise the signs of stress and burnout whilst also knowing what to do in order to manage unhealthy stress levels.

Dr Shamarel, has designed a 2 part workshop that guides participants through how to manage stress effectively. Through the use of interactive activities, you will be shown how to effectively monitor and manage your stress levels. In this workshop, you will create an individualized map to help you understand your stressors, unhealthy cycles and areas to pay particular attention to.

This workshop involves the following:

Pre-Workshop

You will be sent questionnaires via email that will help to evaluate your current stress levels.
This is a mandatory precursor to the workshop.

Part I

A two hour workshop in a small group where Dr Shamarel will walk you through the key
ideas needed in the management of stress. The objectives for the session include:

  • Understanding what is stress and burnout
  • What are the contributing factors of unhealthy stress
  • Learning practical ways to monitor your stress levels
  • Exploration of evidence based approaches to stress management
  • A space for self reflection on what makes you prone to experiencing stress

Part II

Following the completion of part I, you will be invited to schedule a 30 minute one to one session with Dr Shamarel for:

  • Feedback on your stress profile
  • Personalized recommendations

This discussion will support you to identify areas that you may be struggling with and consider appropriate next steps. You will again complete the outcome measures that you were asked to fill out prior to part I of the workshop. This will give a snapshot of how things have changed for you over time.

Emotional Wellbeing Check

An Emotional Wellbeing Check is a 30 minute consultation to give you an overview of how you are doing with your psychological wellbeing. It will highlight key areas of your wellness and give an indication as to whether there are any areas of your life that would benefit from some attention. Like any other health check up, an emotional wellbeing check is an important part of staying on top of your mental health. With no commitment to engaging in regular therapy, this service offers a useful measure of your overall emotional wellbeing.

When might an emotional wellbeing check be beneficial?

  • Something feels “off”, but you can’t quite put your finger on what it is
  • You are considering embarking on therapy, but you remain uncertain as to whether this would be beneficial for you
  • You have a history of mental health difficulties and want to stay on top of your emotional wellbeing

Following the wellbeing check you will be provided with a brief summary report with recommendations from Dr Shamarel. As this is not a service that insurance companies typically reimburse for, you will not be given a formal diagnosis.
