Empowering Emotional Resilience Amid Health Challenges

Living with a chronic illness or ongoing physical pain can take a toll on your mental and emotional well-being. Whether you’re navigating a diagnosis like cancer, autoimmune conditions, or long-term pain with no clear resolution, the psychological impact can be just as significant as the physical symptoms.

At MapleTree Psychotherapy Center in Dubai, we offer compassionate, evidence-based psychological support to help you manage the emotional challenges of chronic health conditions—so you can regain a sense of balance and control over your life.

When Health Affects Your Mental Well-being

You may be experiencing:

  • Anxiety about your prognosis or future
  • Depression or loss of motivation
  • Isolation from friends, family, or social activities
  • Frustration from a limited lifestyle or dependency on others
  • Fatigue and burnout from managing your health daily
  • Grief over loss of function, mobility, or identity
  • Fear of medical procedures or recurring symptoms

Our clients in Dubai include residents, expatriates, and caregivers facing a wide range of chronic health journeys—each deserving of support and emotional care.

How Therapy Can Help

Psychological support complements medical care by helping you:

  • Cope with the emotional burden of your condition
  • Reframe unhelpful thoughts around illness or pain
  • Develop emotional resilience and self-compassion
  • Manage anxiety, depression, and health-related trauma
  • Reconnect with meaning, identity, and personal goals
  • Strengthen communication with caregivers or medical teams
  • Improve your quality of life—even in the face of ongoing symptoms

Therapy offers a safe space where your health challenges can be explored without judgment.

Our Therapeutic Approach

Our clinicians use a personalized blend of:

  • ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy) – to help you live meaningfully alongside illness or discomfort
  • Pain Reprocessing and Relaxation (Mindfulness) Techniques – to support both body and mind in coping with persistent pain
  • DBT (Dialectic Behavior Therapy) – to support emotional resilience in chronic pain or conditions.
  • Existential Therapy – to address suffering, mortality, and meaning.
  • EMDR – to process trauma from medical procedures or diagnoses.
  • Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy – for end-of-life support or chronic illness care.
  • Supportive Therapy for Caregivers – when loved ones also need emotional support

Emotional Wellbeing Check

An Emotional Wellbeing Check is a 30 minute consultation to give you an overview of how you are doing with your psychological wellbeing. It will highlight key areas of your wellness and give an indication as to whether there are any areas of your life that would benefit from some attention. Like any other health check up, an emotional wellbeing check is an important part of staying on top of your mental health. With no commitment to engaging in regular therapy, this service offers a useful measure of your overall emotional wellbeing.

When might an emotional wellbeing check be beneficial?

  • Something feels “off”, but you can’t quite put your finger on what it is
  • You are considering embarking on therapy, but you remain uncertain as to whether this would be beneficial for you
  • You have a history of mental health difficulties and want to stay on top of your emotional wellbeing

Following the wellbeing check you will be provided with a brief summary report with recommendations from Dr Shamarel. As this is not a service that insurance companies typically reimburse for, you will not be given a formal diagnosis.
