Because Supporting Others Shouldn’t Mean Losing Yourself

Caring for others is deeply meaningful — and often incredibly hard. Whether you’re raising children, looking after an elderly parent, or supporting a partner or family member with a disability or chronic condition, it’s easy to feel emotionally stretched, unseen, or just plain worn out.

At MapleTree Psychotherapy Center in Dubai, we support caregivers and parents who are doing their best in complex, often overwhelming situations. You may love the person you’re caring for deeply — and still feel frustrated, resentful, disconnected, or unsure of how to cope. We’re here to help you carry that load with a little more clarity, compassion, and support.

What We Work On Together

Parenting and caregiving can bring up a mix of joy, guilt, stress, and self-doubt — sometimes all in the same day. Our sessions offer a space to:

  • Talk honestly about the hard parts, without guilt or judgment
  • Understand how your caregiving role affects your mental and emotional health
  • Set boundaries and communicate more effectively — with your children, parents, spouse, or even professionals around you
  • Develop emotional regulation and stress-management tools
  • Explore identity loss, burnout, or isolation that can come with caregiving
  • Reconnect with your own needs — because they matter too
  • Identify caregiving resources and support systems, for you and the person needing care

Whether you’re a first-time parent, a caregiver navigating medical systems, or someone juggling both roles, therapy can help you feel more grounded and supported.

Our Approach

We take a relational, compassionate approach — one that acknowledges your lived experience while giving you space to breathe, reflect, and rebuild. Sessions are rooted in:

  • Practical coaching, when helpful, for communication or decision-making challenges
  • Supportive therapy and Psychoeducation, offers emotional support, information about conditions, and coping strategies.
  • Emotion-Focused and Attachment-Based models, particularly helpful for parents
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), to reduce unhelpful thoughts (such as guilt and perfectionism) and burnout by learning stress management and coping strategies.
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), particularly useful when caregivers face unchangeable stressors, such as progressive illness in a loved one.
  • Mindfulness & somatic tools, to manage stress, overwhelm, and sensory overload
  • Narrative and identity-focused therapy, to help you reconnect with who you are beneath the caregiving role

This isn’t a space for parenting advice or judgment. It’s a space for you.

Who This Is For

We work with:

  • Parents of infants, teens, or adult children
  • Caregivers supporting aging parents, spouses, or relatives with illness/disability
  • People balancing multiple caregiving roles (also known as the “sandwich generation”)
  • Individuals feeling the emotional weight of responsibility — even when no one else sees it

Dubai is filled with people caring for others without extended family nearby, while also managing careers, cultural expectations, or personal transitions. We understand how heavy that can be.

We also offer sessions in English, Arabic, French, Hindi, Urdu, Farsi, and Finnish, so you can speak freely in a language that feels comfortable.

Let’s Take Care of You, Too

If you’re always the one holding things together — we invite you to let someone support you for a change. You can explore our team of psychotherapists, find someone who fits your needs, or contact us to get started.

You’re allowed to ask for support. It doesn’t mean you’re not strong. It just means you’re human.

Emotional Wellbeing Check

An Emotional Wellbeing Check is a 30 minute consultation to give you an overview of how you are doing with your psychological wellbeing. It will highlight key areas of your wellness and give an indication as to whether there are any areas of your life that would benefit from some attention. Like any other health check up, an emotional wellbeing check is an important part of staying on top of your mental health. With no commitment to engaging in regular therapy, this service offers a useful measure of your overall emotional wellbeing.

When might an emotional wellbeing check be beneficial?

  • Something feels “off”, but you can’t quite put your finger on what it is
  • You are considering embarking on therapy, but you remain uncertain as to whether this would be beneficial for you
  • You have a history of mental health difficulties and want to stay on top of your emotional wellbeing

Following the wellbeing check you will be provided with a brief summary report with recommendations from Dr Shamarel. As this is not a service that insurance companies typically reimburse for, you will not be given a formal diagnosis.
