Finding Common Ground When It Matters Most

Families are built on love, history, and shared experience — but they can also hold misunderstandings, long-held resentments, and hurt that’s difficult to talk about.
When communication breaks down, when tension grows too heavy to ignore, or when important decisions create division, family mediation and conflict resolution can offer a new way forward.

At MapleTree Psychotherapy Center in Dubai, we offer a structured, supportive space where family members can begin to hear each other again — without judgment, pressure, or taking sides.

What Family Mediation Can Help With

Family conflict isn’t just about surface disagreements — it’s about emotional needs that have gone unheard, roles that have shifted without discussion, and patterns that feel impossible to break.

Through psychotherapy and mediation, we help families:

  • Identify and explore underlying emotional dynamics contributing to conflict
  • Learn healthier ways of expressing needs, fears, and frustrations
  • Develop practical communication strategies that prevent escalation
  • Address generational differences, cultural expectations, or evolving roles
  • Navigate major transitions — such as divorce, blended family integration, elder care decisions, or relocation stress
  • Restore emotional safety within the family system, even when differences remain

This work isn’t about erasing conflict entirely — it’s about learning how to manage it with greater understanding, respect, and care.

Our Therapeutic Approach

Our therapists draw from a relational and systems-based perspective, using approaches like:

  • Family Systems Therapy, to understand how each person’s role, behavior, and emotions affect the whole dynamic
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), especially in emotionally charged or high-conflict situations
  • Conflict resolution techniques, rooted in communication science and emotional regulation

We create a neutral space where every voice is respected, and no one is judged.

Who We Work With

Family mediation and conflict resolution support is available for:

  • Parent-child conflicts, including teens and young adults
  • Sibling disputes, whether current or lingering from childhood
  • Blended families, managing new dynamics and shifting relationships
  • Adult children and aging parents, facing decisions about care, living arrangements, or roles
  • Families experiencing cultural or generational gaps, especially common among expatriate families in Dubai

Therapy is available in English, Arabic, French, Hindi, Urdu, Farsi, and Finnish, to honor the diverse family structures living and working in Dubai.

Emotional Wellbeing Check

An Emotional Wellbeing Check is a 30 minute consultation to give you an overview of how you are doing with your psychological wellbeing. It will highlight key areas of your wellness and give an indication as to whether there are any areas of your life that would benefit from some attention. Like any other health check up, an emotional wellbeing check is an important part of staying on top of your mental health. With no commitment to engaging in regular therapy, this service offers a useful measure of your overall emotional wellbeing.

When might an emotional wellbeing check be beneficial?

  • Something feels “off”, but you can’t quite put your finger on what it is
  • You are considering embarking on therapy, but you remain uncertain as to whether this would be beneficial for you
  • You have a history of mental health difficulties and want to stay on top of your emotional wellbeing

Following the wellbeing check you will be provided with a brief summary report with recommendations from Dr Shamarel. As this is not a service that insurance companies typically reimburse for, you will not be given a formal diagnosis.
